Frequently Asked Questions

The answers to some common questions asked of us by builders and clients

01  How do we know if I need some consulting advice?

Good question! Unfortunately, we don't know what we don't know. Over the many years of experience in the industry, we've seen most mistakes made by builders and made some ourselves. It's from this experience that we can provide you with help in all areas of a residential building business. You might be wondering "Am it doing things the right way"? "Am I being as efficient as I can"? "How do I know if i am complying with all the legislation out there"?

Contact us and let us know what you are thinking and arrange an obligation free chat over a coffee one day and we'll see if we can dig a little deeper to find out where we can help you.

02  What are the costs of consulting?

Unfortunately that is like asking the length of a piece of string. We usually work on an hourly rate but for larger projects we can provide a quote if needed. If the project is a longer one with almost full time hours, the hourly rate can be reduced for the continuity. Once we have an idea of the project or work required, we can provide you with an idea of the hourly rate or the fixed quote.

03  What's 'Strategic Planning' and why would a builder like me use it?

You could have a 'moth to the flame' strategy which means you chase work anywhere and everywhere. In doing this you are creating a new process, a new type of quote, chasing pricing for different materials and contractors every time. By developing a strategy that suits your strengths and skills, you will be able to focus your efforts in the areas where you want to be working or enjoy working.

Understanding your business model will also allow you to 'see' your business in front of you and decide where you need to spend the most time improving your business. You can't do it all at once, so having a business model and strategy will help you work towards your goals in a way that won't duplicate your efforts.

Strategic planning also involves creating a business plan. We can show you how to prepare a one page business plan that highlights your strategy, your goals, your reason for being in business and your bite size targets.

04  I'm not a big builder so why do I need all the process stuff?

Building and constructing a house generally follows a similar path regardless of which builder is involved. A client contacts you, a quote is prepared, a contract is signed and the home is built. How you do this is very much up to the processes and systems you have in place to make you more professional, more efficient and more accurate.

We can show you the processes and systems needed to suit small builders as well as large volume builders.

Wouldn't you like to be as professional as the major builders appear to you?
